Range from 11.1 hands to a maximum of 13 hands tall.
Overall, the Gotland Russ should be proportionate, like a small warmblood horse, with a light build and strong bone. Predominant colours are black, sorrel, bay and duns. All colours are allowed except for total albinos, piebalds (pinto), and roans. However the lighter shades such as grey, perlino and cremello are not desired, because they are believed to be less hardy. White markings are also discouraged, but not disqualified.
The Gotland Russ has the sensibility, working attitude and athleticism of a warmblood, with the easy to handle and care for size of a pony. They are curious, brave, intelligent, even-tempered and quick to learn.
The Swedish Gotland is very friendly and people oriented; they often bond very closely with their owners. They are ideal for people looking for safety in a mount, with lots of intelligence and drive to excel at whatever you want to do.
